Session Title: Practical Book Repair Strand(s): Management MA Presenter Biography
Session Description:
This practical session on book repair will include a discussion on economical in-house repair of frequent-use materials and a demonstration of some techniques. Participants will leave with a complimentary kit of repair supplies and a book repair manual that details how to make common repairs. Attendance is limited to 30 participants.

Caroline Arnold Session Title: Zebra Stripes and Pyramid Poems: Art and Writing Reinforce Reading a Hands-On Workshop Strand(s): Author AU, Literature LI Presenter Biography
Session Description:
In this workshop, participants will create cut paper animal pictures as in Caroline Arnold's animal books. They will depict the animal's environment and learn how placement on the page, size, and overlapping pieces can create the illusion of three dimensions. In the second project, participants will build a pyramid poem by using different parts of speech and adding one word per line. This project shows how good writing makes the subject "come alive" on the page. The author will share additional projects and insights into her own creative process.

New in the Ed Code! All California school districts are required to include a component to "educate pupils and teachers on the appropriate and ethical use of information technology in the classroom, Internet safety, ..." In this session find out how two school districts are beginning to address this issue at the elementary level. One district is using a more formal curriculum integrated by Teacher Librarians and the other is designed by Teacher Librarians but implemented by classroom teachers. Which one will work best for you?

Have you ever had a difficult time explaining how to do something on a computer by email? Have you found yourself providing detailed instructions to students repeatedly? Come discover the many ways screencasting can be used in your organization to create visual guides and demos that users can watch at their leisure. This workshop will be an introduction to screencasting, a review of the various free and commercial tools available, and a discussion on ways it can be integrated into both the curriculum and your support toolbox. An overview of screencast production best practices will also be covered.
